Three Steps to Make My Cat into A Dog (a true story!) by El of Tantalizing Stitches

Luthar may have been born a cat but grew up to be a dog. How you say? First, I mandated that all dwellers of the house take a bath! After giving Luthar a bath once a week for about a month and then every other week thereafter for the first year, he became compliant. No hissing, no scratching. I was even able to take these cute little pictures.

This is how I did it. I first gave Lex (the puppy) a bath while Luthar watched. Once I dried her up, I took Luthar in the bath while Lex watched. I didn't really use soap at first because he was already clean. Once we got to the bimonthly schedule, I added some soap.

But what really made Luthar a dog was our daily walks. First, I would only take Lex for a walk and wouldn't let Luthar out of the house. I felt bad that Luthar was missing out so I purchased a very long leash (about 20 feet) and put it on Luthar. At first he found it to be a fun toy but finally, when he realized it would let him out of the house, he forgot about the leash and walked out the door. I initially kept the leash very short. But as I trusted that he wouldn't climb a tree or something similar, I let the leash out. This all happened within a couple of months. Each outing was made with Luthar on the leash and Lex off the leash. (No dog leash law in the area.)

Then, finally I had to let him free. We did our usually walk around the block and guess what! He followed. Take a look at the documented footage!

And finally, Lex and Luthar sharing the dog house!

Adopt a Homeless Dog Like Cuddlebug

Isn't Cuddlebug (above) just the cutest little thing? She is a young beagle / Australian Cattle dog looking for a forever home. She is currently staying at a foster home sponsored by the Close to Home Animal Rescue in McDonald, Ohio. Before being fostered, she was malnurished and not healthy. However, after being taken in, she has gained weight and happiness. Now, all she need is a home to stay in ... forever.

The Close to Home Animal Rescue is the charity of choice for our fellow Crafting for Animals Guild member Kate of A Dying Art Co. The Close to Home Animal Rescue is a network of foster homes for animals in the Ohio area. These animals have a hard time finding homes and would love to find their perfect fit. If Cuddlebug isn't for you, check out several other cats and dogs that they are currently fostering.

For the month of October, the Crafting for Animals Guild has teamed up with the Close to Home Animal Rescue in an effort to help their animals find forever homes and raise funds for their organization.

From October 23-29, over 20 members of the Crafting for Animals Guild have agreed to donate 10% of your purchase to the Close to Home Animal Rescue when you use coupon code 10CTH-CFA during checkout. More details are here.

The author of this post, El of Tantalizing Stitches, loves animals and is the guild master of the Crafting for Animals Guild. 5% of sales at Tantalizing Stitches (home of bag making supplies) is donated to animal charity. In addition, Tantalizing Stitches will be accepting the CFA coupon.

Kanweienea Kreations: CFA Volunteer and Her Dog Cleo

April 18 was Pet Owner's Day so I took a country tour around the United States to some of our CFA guild member's homes to meet them and their pets. In the post I completely forgot about Gunilla/Kanweienea Kreations and her dog Cleo.

Cleo is a Newfoundland. She is a brown/white landseer which isn't an approved color technically (black/white is though), but regardless of her color, Gunilla loves her. She's very much a part of Kanweienea Kreations. Besides being inspiration for artwork (see the t-shirt?), she also loves getting her photo taken. She makes sure there is always time to play and when Gunilla is working she tends to keep her company by either lying next to Gunilla's work desk, or waiting outside her studio. She eagerly waits outside the studio when Gunilla is airbrushing and can't wait for Gunilla to finish and come outside her studio.

Besides being an animal lover and artist, Gunilla is also an active member of the Crafting for Animals Guild and also one of our monthly columnists. We are very glad to have her in our guild!

El of Tantalizing Stitches was born to be an animal lover. Currently, she uses her love for animals and handmade to spur her online endeavors in running this Guild and her online store. At Tantalizing Stitches, you will find bag making supplies such as magnetic snaps, swivel clips, and d rings.

CFA Member Supports The Francisvale Home for Small Animals

Linda of Jazzitup Jewelry Design introduced me to The Francisvale Home for Small Animals, an animal organization she supports. Although Linda does not have enough time in the day to volunteer woman hours for the shelter, she does what she cans by donating funds. She does this by selling her jewelry. In fact, now she even has a section in her store called "Animal Rescue Jewelry" where 100% of the purchase price is donated to her favorite animal organizations (currently The Francisvale Home and Montgomery County SPCA).

The Francisvale Home is located in Radnor, Pennsylvania and specializes in placing homeless four legged creatures in loving and caring homes.

I've never visited the place myself, but their website provides so much information that you really get to know the type of help they provide. For example, they have posted a bio of Skip, a resident looking for a home. Skip is a five year old Rat terrier with lots of spunk. He is looking for a home after his caretaker moved into a Senior Home. He loves to run after tennis balls and is well trained in the art of "give paw" and "roll over". If you want to visit Skip, feel free to call him at 610-688-1018.

Then there is Juliet. She is a six year old domestic shorthair. I am not so sure if she is still available since her bio was published last year but she sure is a cutie. Juliet seems to really like to hang out. She is affectionate, loving, and talkative and likes being the boss. (She really reminds me of my cat Luthar whose worst enemy are cats and best friends are dogs.) Anyways, who can say no to Juliet?

There are many more beauties waiting to be adopted. You can find them here and here.

However, if you are anyone like me, you already have a houseful of animals and can't take in anymore. There are other ways to help. Besides the usual monetary donation, you could donate toys, bedding, collars, leashes, and many other needed items for these creatures. I find that donating something material (especially handmade) makes the gifting more intimate and real.

You can find The Francisvale Home on Facebook and Twitter.
